In Remembrance: Honoring Jerry Wayne Hall (1945–2026)
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Jerry Wayne Hall, a beloved, multi-decade member of our association. Jerry passed away peacefully on June 23 with his wife, Lydia Raynoha Hall, by his side after a courageous 13-year battle with cancer.
Known affectionately as a true local legend, Jerry epitomized San Diego’s boating community with his warmth, wit, style, and generosity.
A Life Driven by Passion and Precision
Born in Blytheville, Arkansas, on May 8, 1945—a day globally celebrated as Victory in Europe Day—Jerry spent his early childhood in Arkansas and Tennessee before his family relocated to San Diego. He brought with him a lifelong love of mechanics and speed.
- The Racer: In his youth, Jerry competed as a professional motorcycle racer. Even after a career-ending crash, his love for two wheels never faded, and he spent decades touring across the U.S. and Europe on his prized 1992 Harley-Davidson FX.
- The Craftsman: Jerry’s talent for mechanics transitioned into custom auto body design in downtown San Diego, where he crafted custom cars. His exceptional work earned him the “Man of the Year” honor from San Diego’s chapter of the California Autobody Association in the 1980s.
Setting Sail in Yacht Brokerage
When his body shop location was acquired to build Petco Park, Jerry turned his talents to the water. After gaining experience with several brokerages—including Mason Yachts—he founded J.W. Hall Yacht & Ship Brokerage in 2009. For 17 years, Jerry managed, serviced, and sold vessels while building deep connections across the industry.

Jerry was a staple at every forum, industry gathering, and holiday celebration, almost always recognized by his iconic, extensive hat collection.
Jerry is survived by his wife and life partner, Lydia, as well as a vast network of colleagues and friends who will deeply miss his steadfast presence on the water. The family will hold a private service. We invite our members to keep Lydia and Jerry’s loved ones in their thoughts as we remember a true icon of our community.
